The Cast
Cythera is populated with many powerful people. Without spoiling the story, here is a look at some of the movers and shakers in Cytherian Society. All of these are characters that you would find in the first few minutes of play.
Alaric, the LandKing
|
There are some who would call Alaric the lord of the land, while others would detract from his majesty, citing his old age and apparent weakness. Alaric used much of his strength to summon you from Earth to the island of Cythera. His life's work is, by no coincidence, deeply meshed with the history of the land. Alaric is a helpful King, although he is too weak to fight along your side.

Hector

Hector is trained in the ways of the sword and shield. His destiny is to be a hero for the LandKing, although he has never quested before. He has sworn a duty of service to his majesty. He also knows quite a bit about the weapons of the land of Cythera. Perhaps he can be of assistance in your quest. |
Demodocus, the Bard
|
If you are distressed, and in need of a song, your friend Demodocus will help before long. His lyrics and rhythm will britghen your day, and perhaps his fine music can show you the way. Luckily, Demodocus doesn't usually speak in rhymes. He is a traveler who specializes in making music for entertainment. He is famous on the entire island, particularly because he is the only bard. Let his music carry you onward toward victory. |
Magpie, the Fool
|
Fools are smarter than their name would imply. This fool is the King's personal jester, so one would imagine that he'd have much political clout. Good humor also requires quick wit. Magpie imparts a few words of wisdom upon you when the game begins. Heed his foolish suggestions, for Magpie is your friend. |
Emesa, the Cook
|
Emesa is mother of Hector, wife of Hadrian, and the King's personal chef. She has a well-stocked kitchen, and her loaves of bread are unequaled in quality throughout the island nation. Many a guest at LandKing Hall has dined upon her fine cuisine. Sample her tasty treats whenever the pangs of hunger arrive. |
Hadrian, Captain of the Guard

Hadrian is the best fighter in Land King Hall, and has taken it upon himself to
impart his skills upon those who would defend His Majesty's interests. Because of this, he is leader of the squadron of guards, and is often found near to the King.

Ruling Houses
There is a certain amount of info about the political scene in Cythera that can be divulged without spoiling the game. There are three major houses, or power families. House Nicander controls the town of Odemia, Strymon controls Catamarca, and Comana controls Kosha. There are also three minor houses, which are less involved in the power struggle, but are nonetheless important. Perhaps you'll discover their agendas in your travels. The LandKing's eminence made the ongoing power struggle less important, but as the King's power wanes, these rivalries become more urgent and desperate.
