Blue sky and green trees is something most of us take for granted but it's all new if you've lived underground your entire life. Ferazel catches his first glimpse of above ground, but there are many similarities with underground such as pools of acid and the same green-skinned uglies trying to kill you. Unemployed in Greenland boasts two exits, a new magic spell, and a potential bug with the score counting. Let's get started! If you have any comments or problems with this guide, you can email me. I welcome all criticisms, good and bad.
Go right past the save point and you will come across the axe-wielding trolls in Picture 2. Kill them and head right to an acid pool. Before you use the chains to cross the acid, go left to the first tree you see. Get on the tree as I am in Picture 3 and look in the north-east of the screen for the same sparkily stuff that is in Picture 3. This part is a little tricky because you have to jump on the sparkily stuff and then press the jump button so you are lifted as I am in Picture 4. Go up and to the right and land on the ledge to the right to face Gold Xichrons and a knife-throwing goblin. Kill him and break the wall to the left of the power up to earn a Shadow Double power up. The purpose of this is to provide a second Ferazel that can provide you with double the firepower. Unfortunately, it has absolutely no benefit in this level and I do not know why it is there. Now jump back down to the acid pool.
Get the Gold Xichrons above the acid pool and head right on the chains until you reach the teleporter. Stand where I am in Picture 6 and shoot to the right to hit the button and raise the door. Go right past the purple goo and in the door to the room Picture 7. The scroll contains the Boomerang spell and it is a variation on the Fireball spell. Read more about this spell in the next paragraph and for now, get the Golden Xichrons and move on to the right. Get on the water spout if you'd like to as I am in Picture 8 and jump to the left. Walk towards the rock and push it on the red button to raise the door that it's in front of the door in the far right of this room. Head back to the right and out the door. The Boomerang spell uses the same amount of magic as the Fireball spell but it is not affected by gravity and travels in a straight line. In addition, when it reaches the limit and if it hasn't hit anything it returns to you to replenish your magic power. I don't think that it's any more powerful than the Fireball spell but further investigation is needed.
Here is where the usefulness of the Boomerang spell comes to use. The first thing you will see is a bunch of big moths coming towards you from the right. If you used the Fireball spell you'd miss a lot and use a lot of your Magic Power. With the Boomerang spell not only do you don't have to be concerned with gravity but also with missing. You can see the moths in Picture 10. Go on to the right and climb on the tree before the catapult as shown in Picture 11. Climb on the ledge and go up for the Gold Xichrons that are there. Go back down and right past the water and right past the save point to leave this level to gain access to Storm Valley. I suggest doing this just to avoid having to go all the way back to near the entrance.
If you went out to Storm Valley and came back to Unemployed of Greenland, you will be at the beginning of the level so go back outside and the point where you went right. This time go left and past the tree with the spinning chain. Get all of the Xichrons on the top of the trees until you get to Picture 12. Go in the door to find Picture 13 which contains Gold Xichrons, candles, and rock mounds. Leave and get back on the tree in Picture 12 and climb on the wall to get to Picture 14. Get in the cannon that is closest to you when the second cannon is pointing south as in Picture 14. This is because by the time the cannon points north you will come out of the first cannon. You might need to try this a few times to get it right. Once you are flying out of the second cannon, hold left so that you land on the ledge as in Picture 15. Get the Gold Xichrons and jump on the ledge to the right of the second cannon and head on to the right.
Use the rope to get to Picture 16 and to see disappearing platforms. The method is to take a note of where the platforms are and to jump towards the location of the next platform as soon as you land on one. First use them to jump to the right and get all of the Gold Xichrons and go back left to get on the rope in Picture 17. Get the Gold Xichrons and go back down. You will see a High Jump power up but it's only really necessary if you fall from the rope in Picture 17. Go in the chain of cannons making sure you get all of the Gold Xichrons.
There are a bunch of axe-wielding trolls after the chain of cannons so get them out of the way and jump on the tree in Picture 18. Go to the right, following the Gold Xichrons, and through the door to Picture 19. Kill the two bats in this room and get the Gold Xichrons, Smite Ring, and Escape Ring. The Smite Ring destroys all of the enemies on the screen and the Escape Ring takes you back to the map screen no matter where you are. Leave this area and go back out and travel left.
Get the Gold Xichrons in the lake and left past the acid pool while aware that the platform disintegrate when you walk on it. You are then in Picture 20 and the cannons are over a lake of acid. I found that it might be better to simply try and make it to the second cannon because the first cannon rotates and it's hard to time it correctly. You will get launched directly up and hold left so that you fall on the cannon to the left and do it again until you reach Picture 21. Go left to enter the River of Fears level. This was a short but fruitful level with the acquisition of the Boomerang spell. The enemies weren't too tough and you should have learned more how to use the cannons, disappearing platforms, and using ropes. However, I do have bad news for you. I didn't get 100% on everything on this level and I'm not entirely certain that it's possible. While I got 100% of the secrets, I only defeated 84% of the enemies and got 96% of the Xichrons. I posted to Ambrosia's web board and discovered that no one else got 100% of all of the scores and that I had the highest score of everyone there. Someone said that they submitted it as a bug report but that nothing official was stated from Ambrosia. Is this a bug or do I need to come back with another item or spell? I'll keep you posted on what I find and until then, choose one of the two available levels to you and do your best. |
