The Winter Never Ends
January 2000 - Stuff was supposed to go wrong, but the only real catastrophe was the fact that Jason didn't get some articles until the 19th of January. I guess that's a Bug.
Ferazel's Wand ships!
The Ferazel's Wand Demo was released in December! Shout it from the hills, proclaim it to the skies, and kiss your motivation to do homework goodbye. The game is poised to take the Mac Gaming world by storm.
I've you've been living in a cave, and haven't heard of Ferazel's Wand yet, don't panic! Ferazel's Wand starts off in some underground caverns, so you should feel right at home.
By the way, this is our first game that ships on its own CD. We're expecting them in any day now...
In the meantime, you can check out Dave's How To article in this issue. Xichra is waiting for you!
Gift Certificates
Ambrosia offered its first gift certificates this year, and they made great presents for people all over the world.
The gift certificates are $20, and they come in an attractive mailer, with a free Ambrosia CD-ROM; The gift certificate is redeemable for any game on the CD.
Although the holiday season is over, it's never too late to pick one up for a friend! (And we mean that - you have to buy it for a friend, not for yourself).
Maelstrom goes open source?
Mostly yes. Maelstrom 3.0, ported to Linux by Sam Lantinga, is available under the GNU General Public License. It's not the same as Maelstrom 1.4.3, but it does have some noteworthy additions, such as multiplayer support and worldwide score reporting.
The problem is, it doesn't work on a Mac yet. But perhaps someone can help with the Mac port! That's what free software is all about.
Ambrosia at MacWorld
We didn't have a booth this year in MacWorld San Francisco, but we made the trip out to give away Ferazel's Wand CDs, press palms, and spend time at the parties.
We like meeting people, and we like free food, so MacWorld was the ideal place for us to spend the week after the New Year. For more on the San Francisco Soiree of Mac Nerds, read Jason's column in this issue.
Ambrosia Storms the Media... Again
Just when you thought we were done owning the media, we deliver another outstanding two months. First of all, Cythera won a MacHome Reader's Choice Award for best fantasy Game. We knew MacHome was a cool Magazine.
MacAddict ran a picture of Jason in its January 2000 issue, and in its February 2000 issue said that Ambrosia has made 7 of the top 20 shareware games of all time for Macintosh. Only Seven? Oh well, MacAddict is still cool anyway.
MacWorld didn't have anything to say in print, but they made up for it by inviting Jason to an industry roundtable session on MacWorld Live!, which was webcast from the MacWorld Expo floor. We knew MacWorld was a cool place to be.
Jen made an appearance on The Mac Show, sending Christmas Wishes to Shawn King and others.
Ambrosia Monthly Buzz at World Without Borders
Once a month, on a Wednesday, Ambrosia appears at World Without Borders
to talk about all things Ambrosia-related. If you've never been there,
check it out sometime.
Pop-Pop and Deimos Rising
I could tell you more about these games, but I'd have to kill you. If you're really looking for top secret info, I could show you the Sneak Snapz article, which has screenshots of an Ares editor and some other surprises.
