Slithereens Strategy

OK, it's me, Lemonius Funk, with more tips and tricks for the funkiest Mac game in town, Slithereens. Get your joystick ready, and a friend, cuz this one's for two players!

1-Player Strategy

Here's a list of basic techniques that will keep you alive.

Don't die. Pretty obvious, but still worth talkin' 'bout. How does one die, you ask? Simple - as we say back home - "Ya gets et!" Don't let the other snakes eat you. If they bite your tail, you get shorter. If they bite your head, and they're bigger, then tag! You're et! Ha-ha! Get it?
It makes sense, then, that the biggest snake will have the easiest time of munching the littlest snakes. So grow, young one, grow! If you have a choice between chasing a snake's tail or going after a munchy critter, eat the critter! You'll get bigger, and the game will get easier.
Getting too big has its problems. For starters, there's more of you to eat! Try to keep your body and tail sections away from other snakes, and go for the heads while you can!
Sometimes it is best not to chase enemies, because they move so quickly. Instead, try to guess which way they'll go, and execute the "Lone Ranger" plan - head them off at the pass! be careful about where you guess, though. One bad move, and you could be a snake fillet.

2-Player Strategy

Friendly Snacking can be mighty fun. If you have this option turned on, it means you can eat the other player, and vice versa. I've had the most incredible magnifunky fun with this when I don't try to wipe out the second player. Why? Because player 1 and player 2 both slither at the same speed. It's better to go about your own business, and surprise the other player with a friendly, funky, sneaking-on-up kind of chomp now and then.
If you play cooperatively, you share a score. If you play competitively, you don't. Try to figure out what your goal is before you play. Do you want to be the hands-down funkiest team? Maybe you want to prove you're the baddest snake in the garden. Keep your goals in mind when you start a new 2-player game.

Nerdy Snake Tips

A good skill to learn is how to do a self-sacrificial attack on another snake. This avanced maneuver is best performed by a corner with a "dot" adjacent to it. If you can time it just right, you will be able to wrap around the dot and kill the other snake while leaving yourself with just enough segments to stay alive. This skill is especially useful in tight situations or dealing with the threat of a smart enemy snake.
Be vigilant about where you lay your eggs, as these are your sole source of extra lives. Eggs are best laid in a corner of the maze where enemy snakes are less likely to wander towards or in an area that is easy to protect.
Learn how to use the terrain to your advantage. Different areas of the same maze can be more dangerous than others, or might be safer snacking grounds. On several levels (especially later on in the game) the only way to safely pass through is by using the special tiles to your advantage.
Bonus points are for losers and show-offs. The nerdy snake will try to maximize the number of extra lives, in order to play further into the game.
