I would like to take a moment to comment on your company, your philosophy, and your product. I am an unemployed physics student trying to find a graduate school, and I would not normally pay shareware fees at this point in my life-I don't have the resources. But I am making an exception for your company because you are supporting an idea that I believe in. As you know, in this time in history, when increasing amounts of information can be copied with increasing ease, the question of information ownership is a hot socio-political issue. As a scientist, I feel that many of the proposed solutions are rather naive. Portions of society such as the music industry and publishing industry have come to expect payment for each and every copy of the information they produce, but those expectations are daily becoming more and more impractical. Scientists have never had this expectation. It would have been ludicrous for Albert Einstein to demand that royalties be paid each time someone wished to use his equation E = mc^2. Because science depends on the free flow of information, scientists, in general, are not paid for the work they produce. Instead, their work acts as a resume, advertising their ability to produce important information, and society will support them (through research grants, academic positions, and private contributions, {and registrations: editor's note}) for the hope that they will produce future work of similar importance. Society as a whole is now becoming similarly dependent on the free flow of information, and I feel that science can serve as a useful model to facilitate this. I have chosen to support Ambrosia Software, Inc. because it supports a similar vision of the future.This argument could be used for either side of the shareware issue. You could say that we do expect to be paid every time someone uses our version of E = mc^2, but the critical factor here is choice. You have the choice to support us or not. Either you believe we will produce "future work of similar importance" such as EVO, so you'll support us, or you don't care for our "information" and we will be out of business faster than you can say Schroedinger's Wave Equation.
So remember, it's you who make the decision to keep us in business or not.
Absolutely killer game...my wife will probably be leaving me soon, seeing as how I play WAAAAAYYYY too much!Could be time for version 2.0...I guess he believes we'll be producing future work of similar importance ;-)
